Motorcycle and scooter keys are their own small trade. The blades are narrow, the locks sit out in the weather with no bodywork sheltering them, and the ignition, the steering lock, the seat and sometimes a top box all take the same key. Losing the only one is a common call and it does not need the machine moved anywhere.
Cutting is done to the lock where no code is available, and a chipped key is coded to the immobiliser at the machine. If the bike has a separate seat or luggage lock on a different key, it can usually be brought onto the same blade in the same visit, which is worth doing while the equipment is already out.
Exposure is the local wrinkle. A bike parked on a driveway or a yard all year takes dust through the summer and damp through the winter directly on its locks, so ignition and steering locks here wear faster than almost anything else we see. A key that has started to feel gritty in a bike lock is a shorter warning than the same symptom on a house door.
Work runs $109 to $245 with the $89 service call inside it. A plain blade for an older machine sits at the low end; a chipped key with all keys lost sits at the top. Everything is tested with you: the ignition started, the steering lock thrown, the seat opened.

FAQ
Motorcycle Keys: quick answers
Only key gone on the bike. Does it have to go on a truck?+
No. The blade is cut to the lock and any chip is coded at the machine, where it stands. All-keys-lost sits higher in the range because it is more work, but it does not need the bike moved.
Why do bike locks wear out faster?+
Because they are out in the weather with nothing sheltering them. On a machine parked outdoors year round the ignition and steering locks take dust and damp directly, and they are among the fastest-wearing locks we deal with. A gritty feeling in the key is a short warning on a bike.
